Factory workers know best what kind of changes will have the greatest impact on their working conditions and job satisfaction. But they often lack the skills and channels to make their voices heard and have constructive conversations with the management.
Productive discussions start by understanding the other person’s point of view. We want workers to be able to voice their ideas and concerns, as well as give managers the skills to successfully communicate with their employees. We’re working with our manufacturing partner to improve worker representation, increase workers’ understanding of their rights, and give them the opportunity to implement projects that directly affect their working experience.

[2/4] We want to help create a better working environment for everyone involved with Fairphone. Our protective case manufacturer, Broadway, is a great example: since we began our partnership, communication training and a transparent election process for worker representatives have helped to improve worker/management dialogue and representation. For example, employee representatives wanted to review and improve the food service offered. Broadway opened a second canteen with food provided by a different caterer to give workers more choice.
