Implementing living wage

A living wage is a human right and essential to improve the lives of the people working in the supply chain. Fairphone calls on all smartphone manufacturers to ensure living wages and incomes are paid in the supply chain.

To help you get started we have developed this toolkit: a detailed guide that explains what a living wage is and how to implement living wages in the supply chain, a tool to calculate what the living wage product price premium is and a template for an agreement to distribute the living wage premium to workers.

Living wage in EU legislation

Since 2019, Fairphone has run living wage programs for the factory workers producing our phones. The cost? Only around $2 USD per phone – less than a cup of coffee.

Our efforts also go beyond the supply chain. Fairphone initiated a call on the EU, with a coalition of over 60 companies, investors and initiatives, to ensure that living wages and incomes are included as a human right in the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive.
