Our hardware is durable and dependable, with our signature modular design making it easy to swap parts like the display and the battery when needed. When it comes to warranty periods and after sales support, we’re breaking industry conventions and records, offering longer support windows than anyone else.

Why do things need to change?

We’re fighting against a market trend where the average phone is replaced way too early and too often. That’s not good for anyone in the long run.

Smartphones are responsible for around 1% of global carbon emissions each year. Roughly 80% of this climate impact is created during production. The longer we hold on to our devices, the less smartphones that need to be produced, and the more we reduce the impact on global warming.
The rate at which we create electronic waste globally is growing five times faster than the rate of recycling. Using our devices longer will help to reduce this growing stream of waste.
Over 60 materials are used in a smartphone. Building products that last and giving electronics a second life, saves resources and reduces the environmental strain related to their extraction.

That’s why we build our devices to last. It’s the fair thing to do.

Hardware that endures

Our devices are designed to last. We make it easy for our customers to keep using their phones for a very long time. How do we do this? Our modular design makes swapping parts easy. Pop in a spare battery or replace the display in minutes. Our spare parts are more than affordable compared to the competition, and will be available for years to come on our webshop. Instructions on making quick and easy DIY repairs can be found on our website as well. In case you do need professional repairs, we are more than happy to help. We also constantly share maintenance tips and other advice with the Fairphone community to extend your device’s life.

Software that evolves

Our range of Fairphone devices receive security updates and software upgrades well beyond the industry average, designed to help their owners get the best out of their phone. With the Fairphone 5, we set a new bar for software support, guaranteeing a minimum of eight years at the very least. That includes at least five major Android upgrades as well. With the Fairphone 4, we recently released a camera software update that overhauled the imaging experience from the ground up, three years after the model was first launched. By the end of its product cycle, the Fairphone 2 had received seven years of software support, unheard of in the industry at the time. We also make sure Fairphone owners have the freedom of choice, with the option to choose the privacy-focused /e/OS over Google’s Android OS.

Our progress and achievements

At Fairphone, we design our products to do something very special: help us get closer to our vision of a fair economy. The phone itself was just the starting point. Here are some of our proudest moments over the ten years we have been around.

2024: We released the Fairbuds, our first repairable wireless earbuds that scored a perfect 10/10 iFixit score.
2023: The Fairphone 5 becomes one of the first phones to launch with an IoT chipset that allows software support for at least eight years.
2021: The Fairphone 4 becomes the first to offer a 5-year extended manufacturer warranty. It was also our first 5G smartphone.
2020: We released a physical camera hardware upgrade for the Fairphone 3, which had launched a year prior. Users could easily make the upgrade themselves, thanks to its robust modular design.
2015: The Fairphone 2 had many firsts: It was the first modular device on the market, the first phone to receive a camera upgrade, and the first smartphone to receive 7 years of software support, from Android 5 all the way to Android 9.
2013: We were the first in the industry to offer spare parts online for our Fairphone 1.
