About your role

Fairphone wants to improve its software development strategy, strengthening our DevOps approach. The ultimate end goal is to streamline the integration and automation of recurring processes such as compiling / building / testing / packaging / deploying software artifacts and enabling a continuous delivery and deployment of those artifacts.
We aim for a smooth release process with more automation and quicker and error-proof software builds, avoiding manual work.
The purpose of this role is to lead the improvement of existing and implementation of new DevOps practices, while continuously looking out for improvements on our journey to a world-class Smartphone Manufacturer. 
You will report directly to our Software Longevity team Tech Lead, under our Head of Software Engineering who is reporting to our CTO.

Key Responsibilities & Objectives

  • Extend and maintain the infrastructure for the build and release management of software running on our phones (with tools like Gerrit, Jenkins, GitLab, Jira, etc) in collaboration with IT administrators, software engineering, and validation teams.
  • Research and development with our Android software engineers on the infrastructure behind the test automation on (Android) devices, like ATS/OmniLab or LAVA. Test areas are, for example, boot testing, bootloader testing, regression testing, system level testing, Android compliance and stability testing.
  • Contribute to extending the hardware of the test lab setup, for example, for automated device recovery, ensuring reliable test environments, etc.
  • Handle development, testing, and deployment processes for developing automated CI/ CD pipelines, a combined practice of continuous integration (CI) and continuous delivery (CD) for Android builds.
  • Contribute to secure management of release signing and release key management
  • Standardize the software images creation to be able to use automated processes across our partners with different formats (qfil, fastboot).
  • Provide infrastructure for logging, monitoring, and tracing of CI/CD and server applications with alerts and dashboards in collaboration with our IT team.
  • Improve existing pipelines by applying best practices in terms of security and automation.
  • Nice-to-have: support the Over-the-Air (OTA) deployment and activities, for example, with Google OTA or Enterprise OTA systems.

Your Skills & Experience

  • You have a minimum of 5 years of technical experience in a Android Build & Release Engineer or in a DevOps position. 
  • You have a degree in computer science or equivalent work experience.
  • You have a demonstrable track-record in guiding scale up companies to a next level of technical maturity and making the DevOps setup ready for it.
  • You have experience with continuous integration (CI) and continuous deliver (CD) systems and automated test setups (TA). Preferably you also have experience testing electronics and in particular Android devices.
  • You are familiar with Agile ways of working.
  • You are communicative, stakeholder-centric, and have a hands-on mentality.

Key Responsibilities & Objectives

  • Designing and developing new features for predictive maintenance for the Android platform to anticipate hardware failures (e.g., battery degradation, storage corruption, overheating), software glitches, or performance bottlenecks. 

  • Architect, implement, and maintain the end-to-end stack—from the device kernel (data acquisition) to the cloud (model training/serving) and the Android application (user feedback/alerts).

  • Utilise real-time device data, advanced analytics, and machine learning models to accurately anticipate potential failures, degradation, or performance bottlenecks before they impact the user experience.

  • Take ownership of both the Android (Frontend) components, including user-facing predictive diagnostics and actionable insights, and the Backend infrastructure (Microservices) necessary for large-scale data ingestion, model serving, and continuous learning.

  • Clean and manage large datasets for model training.

  • Version, track, package, and deploy models into a production environment, treating ML models as first-class citizens in a CI/CD pipeline.

Your Skills & Experience

About your role

The Fairphone Software Engineering team is seeking a senior Android Telephony & Qualcomm Modem Engineer to redefine device longevity. In this role, you won't just maintain a device; you will architect a more sustainable future for mobile technology by extending the lifecycle of our hardware up to 8 years. You will be the technical anchor for our Telephony and Radio subsystems, bridging the gap between Fairphone’s hardware and the Android OS. Your mission is to master the complexities of the Qualcomm proprietary stack through nearly a decade of Android upgrades. We are looking for an engineer who excels at deep-dive analysis and innovative problem-solving, someone capable of maintaining security and performance long after traditional vendor support ends. Join us in building a fairer, more durable OS that proves high-performance technology can, and should, last.

Key Responsibilities & Objectives

High-level responsibilities:
  • Integrate and maintain the Android operating system on Fairphone devices.
  • Apply expertise on the Android telephony stack and Qualcomm modem firmware on smartphone SoCs in order to implement the continuously changing requirements of network operators, as well as Fairphone’s own telephony-related requirements, maintaining features across upgrading Android system and modem versions.
  • Analyze mobile network operator (MNO) partner requirements and features and translate these to corresponding technical specifications for our software stack, specifically with respect to technologies such as 5G and IMS (VoLTE, VoWiFi, RCS, etc.)
  • Implement software fixes for specific challenges. Work together with quality teams and testing partners to validate proposed fixes and to ensure integrity of the overall operating system.
  • Drive continuous improvement in software quality. 

Key technical areas for which this role carries responsibility:
  • Qualcomm telephony stack on Android devices: Implementation of evolving network operator specifications and Fairphone’s unique telephony requirements. You will be responsible for the architectural integrity of these features, ensuring seamless functionality and high-performance connectivity as you bridge legacy and modern software baselines across 8 years of Android OS and modem upgrades.
  • Android operating system upgrades: Contribution to the software engineering activities needed for upgrading the devices to newer Android version with a focus on the technical stacks such as Qualcomm’s modem firmware, Android telephony framework, Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL)/Radio Interface Layer (RIL), the Qualcomm proprietary software stack that bridges between the Android and modem firmware.
  • MR and SMR releases: Contribution to ongoing long-term maintenance work, including the continuous development of the Android platform across our entire device portfolio. You will ensure consistent system stability through successive Android versions,, performing root-cause analysis for issues and providing proactive maintenance to uphold high quality standards between major releases.
  • Baseline shifts for the OS and SoC: Streamlining of the transition to new Android and Qualcomm software baselines to reduce the turnaround time for OS upgrades and minimize regression risks.
  • MNO tech stack sunsets and transitions: Implementation of engineering solutions to navigate the global 2G/3G sunset. You will lead the technical transition for our device portfolio by optimizing Voice over Long-Term Evolution (VoLTE) and Voice over New Radio (VoNR) deployments, ensuring IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) stack compatibility across international carriers. This includes the strategic fine-tuning of modem firmware to guarantee seamless connectivity and to ensure compliance with mandatory emergency service (E911/112) across our target country markets.
  • Device security: Drive security maintenance initiatives, with a focus on vulnerability assessment and mitigation for legacy components. Evaluate the security impact of End-of-Support software from Qualcomm and third-party suppliers (e.g., eSIM/Secure Element)

Your Skills & Experience

  • You have a degree in computer science, software engineering, computer engineering, or a similar field, or have equivalent experience in one or more of these fields.
  • You have 5+ years of relevant, hands-on experience in the Android ecosystem, specializing in system bring-up, maintenance, and upgrades. You have a proven track record in developing features within the Android Telephony stack and interfacing with Qualcomm modems.
  • You possess a rigorous understanding of mobile networking protocols and wireless communication standards.

The Product LCA & Impact Analyst ensures the accuracy, consistency, and usability of the data behind our product footprints, including acting as the first-line steward for all inputs to our Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs). By improving data quality and translating results into clear insights, the role helps teams understand where impacts come from and how design and sourcing choices can reduce them.
This role focuses on data quality, analysis, and insights. Full LCA modeling is conducted by dedicated specialists or external partners. Positioned at the intersection of sustainability, product development, and sourcing, it ensures LCA is not just a reporting exercise, but a practical tool that supports Fairphone’s mission to build more sustainable electronics.

Key Objectives
  • Ensure high-quality, consistent, and reliable data inputs for environment/sustainability frameworks, particularly product LCAs,
  • Identify environmental impact hotspots and provide actionable insights to reduce product footprints,
  • Improve the accuracy of footprint calculations by transitioning from generic to supplier-specific data,
  • Enable product teams to make informed, lower-impact design and sourcing decisions,
  • Enable the Impact and Innovation Team to make informed and strategic decisions on impact innovation activities.
Your Key Responsibilities 
  • Act as first-line steward for all LCA input data across products, spare parts, and accessories,
  • Collect, validate, and structure primary and secondary environmental data from suppliers and internal teams,
  • Analyze LCA results to identify key environmental impact drivers and improvement opportunities,
  • Translate findings into practical recommendations for product design and sourcing and impact innovation activities,
  • Maintain and continuously improve internal LCA datasets, documentation, and assumptions,
  • Collaborate with external LCA partners and review modeling results for plausibility and consistency
  • Support broader sustainability initiatives (circularity, longevity, fair materials, nature) with robust environmental data.

  • Reviewing and validating data used in LCAs (materials, components, weights, processes),
  • Making sure assumptions are consistent across products, spare parts, and accessories,
  • Identifying where data quality is weak and helping improve it over time,
  • Analyzing LCA results to understand what really drives environmental impact at material and component level,
  • Turning complex LCA outcomes and other data into clear insights for product managers, engineers, project managers, and leadership.
You will also spend time on future-focused data improvement, such as:
  • Researching better public datasets relevant to the electronics industry,
  • Assessing supplier-specific data when it becomes available,
  • Helping shift from generic datasets toward more accurate, product-specific inputs.

Your Skills & Experience

  • You have a minimum of 2–3 years’ experience in product LCA, carbon footprinting, and/or sustainability data analysis,
  • You have some formal training in Industrial Ecology, Environmental Science, Engineering, Sustainability, or Data Science, or a related field (Master’s preferred)
  • Solid understanding of LCA principles (ISO 14040/44) and product environmental footprinting,
  • You are comfortable working with Excel, structured datasets, and documentation tools,
  • Preferably, you are familiar with LCA databases/tools (e.g. SimaPro, GaBi, Ecoinvent),
  • You have excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Experience with electronics, consumer products, or manufacturing supply chains is a plus,

About your role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Product Security Officer to lead and champion security initiatives throughout the entire product development lifecycle of our mobile and audio devices, including the hardware angle (choice of the components, etc.) and software angle (operating systems, firmware, applications), with a higher focus on the smartphones of our portfolio. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of mobile software security, including firmware-layer vulnerabilities and OS-level attack vectors, with a foundational grasp of hardware-backed security features and trusted execution environments. They will be responsible for embedding security by design into our products, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, and protecting our customers' data and privacy.
You will report directly to our Head of Software Engineering, under our CTO.

Key Responsibilities & Objectives

Security Strategy:
  • Develop and implement comprehensive product security strategies and roadmaps, ensuring product security compliance with relevant industry regulations (e.g., Common Criteria methodology) and certifications (AER or other B2B product security requirements).
  • Provide expert guidance on the core hardware security components (e.g. Secure Element, dedicated, tamper-resistant hardware chip) and software implementation of new and existing phone products.
  • Conduct security reviews and risk assessments for all new product features and major updates.
  • Maintain documentation of product security controls and compliance efforts.
Secure Development Lifecycle (SDL):
  • Integrate security activities into every phase of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), from requirements gathering to deployment and maintenance
  • A critical component of this role is managing the extended security posture of our products, ensuring that smartphones and audio devices remain resilient against evolving threats throughout their long-term software support window (8–10 years for the smartphones).
  • Define and enforce secure coding guidelines and best practices for development teams, including the ODM (Original Design Manufacturer).
  • Shepperd and support QA team in  security testing activities including checking if the ODM is integrating all the required patches (google, Linux kernel, Qualcomm)
Vulnerability Management:
  • Establish and manage a vulnerability management program for phone and audio products, including tracking, prioritization, and remediation of security defects.
  • Monitor security advisories and emerging threats relevant to mobile devices and platforms.
  • Lead incident response and vulnerability management, serving as the primary liaison with Legal to ensure all mitigation efforts align with product compliance requirements. You will be responsible for operationalizing our response strategies to meet the rigorous standards of the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) and NIS2 Directive, ensuring that vulnerability disclosures and reporting timelines are handled with both technical precision and regulatory across the entire product lifecycle..
  • Work closely with the software and hardware engineering team, QA, and product management teams to remediate identified vulnerabilities in a timely manner and fix issues if needed.
Collaboration & Training:
  • Serve as the primary security subject-matter expert for product and engineering teams.
  • Provide security training and awareness programs to software and hardware engineering, QA, and product management teams.
  • Collaborate with external security researchers and participate in bug bounty programs.
  • Work closely with the broader Information Security team (IT, Legal) to align product security with enterprise security initiatives.
Emerging Technologies:
  • Stay abreast of the latest advancements in mobile technology, security threats, and countermeasures.
  • Evaluate and recommend new security tools and technologies for product development.

Your Skills & Experience

  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in product security, mobile security, or a similar role, preferably within a telecommunications or consumer electronics company.
  • Demonstrable experience with securing mobile operating systems (Android) with Qualcomm chipsets, embedded systems, and hardware security.
  • Proven track record of implementing and maturing Secure Development Lifecycles (SDLs).
Technical Skills:
  • Strong understanding of common mobile security vulnerabilities.
  • Proficiency in security testing tools and methodologies
  • Knowledge of cryptography, secure boot, trusted execution environments (TEE), and hardware security modules (HSM).
  • Familiarity with network security protocols and mobile network architectures (5G, LTE).
  • Experience with various programming languages (e.g., C/C++, Rust, Java/Kotlin, Python).
Soft Skills:
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
Preferred Qualifications (Bonus Points):
  • Familiarity with privacy-by-design principles and data protection regulations.
  • Familiarity with open sourcing principles.

About your role

The Website Product Owner is responsible for the vision, strategy, and execution of Fairphone’s direct sales channel www.fairphone.com. As part of the eCommerce team you will be bridging the gap between business goals, user needs, and technical feasibility.

Working closely with the Head of eCommerce, Digital Product Designers, CRO Specialist, and UX Researcher, you will own the Roadmap and prioritize the backlog to ensure we are building the right features at the right time. About your role

The Procurement Manager will play a critical role in delivering Fairphone’s strategic procurement objectives. You will be expected to understand the business and product needs and translate that to supplier search and meeting supplier delivery based on these needs on proposition and cost price. In addition to managing key procurement categories, the role is instrumental in supporting a healthy P&L by ensuring cost-effective sourcing and delivering the right value for money across current goods and services.

This person is also responsible for relationship management with the supplier and for gathering and analyzing robust market intelligence, with a particular focus on the phone industry, to inform negotiation strategies and sourcing decisions. You will translate market trends regarding phones and sub-components into actionable goals for the business. Furthermore, you will work on value engineering ideas for phones at the factory level and drive process improvements.

Key Responsibilities & Objectives

  • Lifecycle & Supplier Management: Manage lifecycle changes of current phones in the market and lead the sub-supplier selection process alongside ODM Program Managers and cross-functional teams.
  • Market Intelligence: Gather accurate market knowledge on pricing and trends for sub-suppliers (e.g., memory, battery, display) to ensure supply availability at a competitive price and manage risks.
  • Sourcing strategy: Responsible for supplier selection, stakeholder alignment across the company,  and managing sourcing activities for accessories like chargers and cables, as well as sub-supplier selection for phones. Negotiate prices with sub-suppliers on components and raw material to achieve business needs.. Responsible for continuous supply risk analysis and 2nd source introduction.
  • Value Engineering: Lead value engineering initiatives by collaborating with cross-functional teams and suppliers to reduce costs while maintaining or enhancing functionality. This includes performing gemba walks together with the Operations teams to identify areas for improvement.
  • Knowledge Sharing: Periodically share key market trends and intelligence regarding sub-suppliers with the wider team.
  • Contract Management: Act as the owner of contracts, working closely with legal and cross-functional teams to ensure strong, robust contracts are in place against suppliers. 
  • Supplier development: Contribute to the Supplier Developer Program in partnership with Operations Asia and Quality Management teams.

Your Skills & Experience

  • Industry Background: You have a minimum of 7 years of experience within Procurement in consumer goods (FMCG, electronics, etc.) and at least 5 years of proven experience specifically within the Phone industry. Ideally, you have worked as a buyer in phone companies or ODM companies.
  • Technical Knowledge: You have a clear understanding of market trends for phones and sub-components (memory, battery, display, etc.) and proven experience understanding costed BOMs. Experience in cost analysis of mechanical parts (tooling, Injection, CNC and finishing). Experience with recycled materials (PCR plastic), fair materials is a plus.
  • Value Engineering: You have proven experience in value engineering focused on cost down initiatives, including practical experience with gemba and factory walks.
  • Core Skills: You have experience in account management with suppliers and experience in sourcing within New Product Introductions (NPI). Skills on pulling in materials delivery schedule to meet urgent production requirements. Experience in price negotiation and reduction with top global suppliers.
  • Communication: You have proven written and verbal communication skills in Mandarin and English. 
  • Tools: Experience working with dashboards like Power BI or Google Looker Studio is a plus.
