The Fairbuds XL tagline directly reflects Fairphone's goal to directly counter the mainstream audio industry's reliance on disposable, short-lived consumer electronics without compromising on acoustic performance. They are made fair as well, with more than 50% fair and recycled materials by weight (including 100% recycled rare earth elements in the speaker magnets, 92% recycled aluminum, and >80% recycled plastics), and 100% Fairtrade gold integrated into the supply chain, alongside 100% fair cobalt, copper, and silver use via mineral credit systems. And for every Fairbuds XL purchased, we collect and recycle a weight-equivalent amount of electronic waste through our partners in countries like Ghana, our official take-back program, and school e-waste races in the Netherlands, Germany, and the UK.
Built to Last
- Modular and user-repairable: Built with zero glue using standard screws. Users can replace up to nine distinct spare parts (including battery, ear cushions, headband, USB-C port, and speaker drivers) in minutes using a single T5 screwdriver. iFixit has also awarded the Fairbuds XL a perfect 10/10 like its smartphone cousins.
- Backward Compatible Modularity: Original Fairbuds XL owners can buy individual upgraded speaker units and swap them into their older model without replacing the whole headset.
- Certified Longevity: The world's first consumer audio product awarded the LONGTIME® label for durability and repairability.
- Warranty: Fairphone devices are covered by the standard two-year statutory legal guarantee of conformity mandated by EU consumer law. To encourage long-term use and reduce e-waste, Fairphone provides an additional voluntary commercial warranty of up to one year upon device registration, bringing total protection up to three years. All voluntary commercial warranties exist independently of, and do not limit, your statutory rights under national consumer protection laws.
- Intelligent Power Management: A dedicated Auto Power Off feature turns the headphones off after 30 minutes of inactivity, keeping your headphones going on a single charge longer while preserving overall battery health.
- Ergonomic & Breathable Build: Upgraded from vegan leather on the Fairbuds XL (2023) to a more robust and durable net headband and bird's-eye mesh fabric ear cushions with increased breathability for more comfort. The Fairbuds XL also sport an IP54 dust- and splash-resistance rating.
