Delivery of the Fairphone 2 has begun! Join us as the first Fairphone 2 makes its final journey to its owner. Below is a live map with the current location of the first phone. (Updated: The phone made it! The map is now offline, but you can see a screenshot below). You can find live pictures it’s taking from inside its box at the end of this post.

It’s been almost two years in the making, and some of the earliest buyers have been patiently waiting since July to receive their new phones. As community manager, I want to personally welcome the new batch of Fairphone owners to our community. When we were thinking of a way to celebrate the shipment of the first phone, we wanted to come up with a way that everyone online could join in and be a part of it.

That’s one of these phones is switched on and will broadcast its journey live as it moves through the distribution center of DHL to its proud new owner.

The Fairphone 2 travels around the world

The phone has come a long way before arriving at owners’ doorsteps. It’s literally taken a trip around the world – starting with mineral resources from places like Congo, smelters in Austria, then hundreds of components coming together to our manufacturing partner in China, and finally making it to our distribution center in the Netherlands.
