Making the case against child labor

Together, we have the opportunity to make long-lasting change. In October and November of 2018, we teamed up with Hivos, coordinator of Stop Child Labour, to fight against child labor in Uganda. Every Coral Red purchase contributed directly to on-the-ground action. With your support, we managed to raise an impressive €15,890, reaching the final funding goal.

Skills instead of shovels

With the final funding goal fully realized, Hivos and its local partner EWAD can support the vocational training of 23 teens in Uganda, previously working in gold mines.

These efforts focus on providing better access to future employment, as well as facilitating entrepreneurship – The foundation for a chance of a better future.

Inspiring change

Together, we aim to inspire change within the electronics industry

Gold is an indispensable part of our phones. However, it is linked to severe environmental, social and transparency issues at nearly every step of the sourcing chain: dangerous working conditions, poor wages, child labor. Driven by our commitment to making gold sourcing fairer for everyone involved, we joined forces with Hivos for this campaign. Together, we want to show the industry what’s possible and inspire them to take similar steps toward change.

Our partners

Hivos, coordinator of Stop Child Labour, works with partner organizations like EWAD in several countries in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Their focus is on creating child labor free zones, where inhabitants agree to eliminate child labor together.

Since 2003, Stop Child Labour and its partners have played a crucial role in eliminating child labor and promoting formal quality education for all. By working closely with local communities and community-based organizations, 122 child labor free zones are created. In the past five years, Stop Child Labour withdrew more than 63,000 children from labor and (re) integrated them in the formal education system.

The funds from the joint Coral Red campaign will support the local organization Environmental Women in Action for Development (EWAD) in Uganda. They go a long way to support lasting change and show that together we can change the industry.
